What to Expect When You Buy a Suppressor at Sound of Freedom

Purchasing a suppressor shouldn’t feel complicated or intimidating. At Sound of Freedom, our goal is to make the ATF Form 4 process straightforward and stress-free. We handle nearly every part of the process for you — all you need to do is choose your suppressor and let us guide you through the rest. Here’s what to expect when you come in.

1. Choose and Purchase Your Suppressor

Everything starts with finding the right suppressor for your firearm and shooting style. Our experienced staff will walk you through your options and help match you to the right model.

  • In-stock items: If we have it, you can purchase and start your Form 4 process right away.
  • Special orders: If we need to order it, we’ll let you know the expected lead time. Supply may tighten as the $200 tax stamp is set to be eliminated on January 1, 2026, so planning ahead is a smart move.

2. Create Your ATF eForms Account

Before we begin your Form 4, you’ll need to create an ATF eForms account. · Sign up: Visit ATF eForms and register for a free account.

  • Save your email: The ATF will send your username by email — don’t delete it; you’ll need it every time you file.
  • Bring with you:
    • Your username and the email address you used to register
    • Your 4-digit PIN (think of it as your combination — keep it secure)
    • A valid government-issued photo ID showing your current address

3. Fingerprinting and Passport Photo

We capture everything electronically — no messy ink, no extra stops.

  • Fingerprints: Captured with our live-scan fingerprint reader, which ensures high-quality prints that meet ATF standards. Your prints are saved as an .EFT file, allowing us to reuse them for future NFA purchases.
  • Passport photo: Taken in-store using software that automatically formats it to ATF requirements.

(You’re not supposed to smile for the photo — we don’t make the rules. At least ours come out well-lit and professional.)

This entire process takes just a few minutes, and it’s all handled here at Sound of Freedom – at no additional cost to you.

4. Individual vs. Trust Applications

You can apply as an individual or through a trust. Both are legal, and we can help you determine which fits your situation best.

  • Individual (most common):
    • Fastest and simplest.
    • Requires only your fingerprints, photo, and Form 4.
  • Trust:
    • Allows multiple people to legally possess and use the suppressor.
    • Bring a signed and notarized electronic copy of your trust (PDF preferred).
    • Every person listed must complete their own fingerprints, photo, and Responsible Person Questionnaire.
    • Each person can come in separately, but we must have everyone’s information before submitting your Form 4.

Most customers choose the individual route, but if a trust makes more sense, we’ll ensure every detail is handled correctly.

5. Completing and Submitting Your Form 4

Once all your information is ready, we take care of the paperwork.

  • We complete the form: Our staff fills out the ATF Form 4 for you.
  • You review and sign: You’ll verify all information and enter your 4-digit PIN to sign electronically.
  • Immediate submission: We submit your Form 4 on the spot — no mailing, no delays.
  • ATF confirmation: Within a few minutes, you’ll receive an email confirming submission. You can track progress anytime through your ATF eForms account.

Most customers are in and out in 20–30 minutes. Trusts may take slightly longer depending on the number of responsible persons

6. Approval and Pickup

The waiting period for approvals has improved dramatically. What used to take months now often takes just a few days or weeks — though we expect some slowdown once the tax stamp is eliminated.

When your Form 4 is approved, the ATF will email you directly. Bring:

  • A valid government-issued photo ID with your current address
  • A copy of your approved Form 4 (digital copy is fine)

You’ll then complete a Form 4473, and once that’s done — your suppressor goes home with you.
